Astika : belief in the Vedas Nastika : rejection of the Vedas Both Astika and Nastika contain viewpoints defined as atheistic. Astika atheism doesn't believe in a Creator God but does acknowledge the concept of dualism (material and spiritual/soul) and non-dualism(Advaita - everything is the Brahman and is connected and one - reality is illusory) Nastika atheism includes three main schools of thought: Theravada Buddhism, Jainism, and Carvaka Carvaka is a materialist, secular, and atheist school of thought closely resembling today's Secular Humanist philosophy.
