I am using Nokia N72 on Airtel Karnataka carrier, and new version of
Gmail app (1.5) but i can't connect it gives an error saying "it
requires a working connection"
I can't even browse gmail using built in browser or opera for mobile
This error message means that your phone's data connection can't be
accessed by the Gmail app. Do you have a valid data plan with Airtel?
I'm thinking there might be a problem with the data plan since you
can't access gmail.com via your browser -- do other sites work?
If your data plan is working, I would check to make sure your phone is
configured to allow network access by Java applications.

Ok so if these instructions have been followed:
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=52879 also these: http://groups.google.com/group/Gmail-Help-Gmail-for-Mobile-en/browse_... and the phone has been reset and every other possible suggestions
online has been taken into account, then what do we do?
I have a Nokia N73 in France Bouygues Telecom unlimited data plan-I
have contacted them and no changes their end. I have ALWAYS been able
to use the red and blue gmail apps without any difficulty until a few
days ago. I also cannot connect to gmail through my browser -it just
won't connect -every other option of google on the browser works fine.
I really don't believe it's the settings as the gmail app has always
worked fine until now an I have followed every instruction given
Help pleeeeeaaaase I really miss the wonderful gmail app and I need it
on my phone

I have a Nokia 6080 that has been running gmail app ver 1.5 for 3
months. Then at the start of August, it just would not let me in.
"this program requires a working data connection". I have reinstalled,
followed advice for network access and nothing works. Interestingly,
if i put mu sim card into a motorolla pebl and run gmail, it works
perfectly. So 2 facts exist:
1 the problem is not with my network as I can access it.
2 the problem is linked to my Nokia, but I didn't change anything.
It is interesting that others are reporting the same problem. Any
solution?

weekend and got a replacement model supplied ( exactly same model) and
now GMail wont work . My phone has got internet access as i was able
to download the GMail application and install it. I can also access
my Gmail account via the phones POP email capability
so hopefully some one can identify whats happening
