Subject: iPhone not getting IMAP notification of new email
I have set up my gmail account with  IMAP enabled.  I can manually
check for new email and if I delete a mail item on my iPhone that
change will be reflected on my account. This makes me think I have
IMAP set up correctly.

Next I send an email to my gmail account from my office account and
wait.  No notification.  After waiting a few minutes, if I launch the
mail application on the iPhone and select my gmail account, I can see
the mail client accessing the 3G network, then I receive a new mail
notification.

My iPhone setting have “Fetch New Data” set to Push and Fetch set to
15 minutes.
I have tried this test waiting for the polling cycle to kick in, and
that works.  So I my question is:
-       Do gmail IMAP send notification “instantly” (or nearly so)?
-       If so, what might I try to get this working?

only MobileMe customers get immediate push notifications, so you can
turn push off to save battery, and leave update interval at 15
minutes.
