I am using gmail with imap on my iPhone. I have another account and e-
mail address which is forwarded directly to my gmail account. When
responding I always use my old e-mail address and ideally would like
to keep my gmail address private. When I use the gmail smtp server, I
can send a message to myself or cc myself, and it goes in my inbox as
expected. However, many of my contacts use outlook and I don't like
the "send on behalf" issue, so I have been using my own smtp server to
send my messages (which avoids that issue) and also keep the "sent"
messages in my gmail imap directory. However, what is happening is
that when I use the alternate smtp server, gmail detects the incoming
message and being in the sent directory and archives it directly (ie
it never show up in inbox). However, when I use the gmail server this
issue is avoided and any messages sent by myself to me go directly to
my inbox as intended. Is there any way to work around this as its
quite frustrating.
