POP vs. IMAP - which should you use?

|
| |
Now that Gmail provides both POP and IMAP access, it's about time to
decide: which one's better for you? Let's break them down...
POP:
- offers one-way downloading of your messages from the Gmail servers
to your computer
- always downloads the entire message, making it easy to back-up your
mail... more »

Email client won't accept your password?

|
| |
Attempts to download or send mail are failing. You might get a message
about how your credentials aren't valid, or your email client might
keep asking you for your password, over and over. You've already
checked that POP or IMAP is enabled in your Gmail Settings, your email
client is completely updated, and you're certain that your email... more »

Can someone please help me make sense of Gmail IMAP on Mac?
|
| |
I want to switch to Gmail from MobileMe (blech!), but I'm so utterly
confused by the Gmail setup within Apple Mail. I've also been looking
at using GyazMail, but can't quite get it working right either.
Apple Mail has a Sent folder, Drafts folder, etc. Gmail seems to
duplicate all of this. I read the help files and followed the... more »

iPhone not getting IMAP notification of new email
|
| |
I have set up my gmail account with IMAP enabled. I can manually
check for new email and if I delete a mail item on my iPhone that
change will be reflected on my account. This makes me think I have
IMAP set up correctly.
Next I send an email to my gmail account from my office account and
wait. No notification. After waiting a few minutes, if I launch the... more »

Cannot connect to server using Outlook Express
|
| |
I have checked all my setting four or five times. Tried to make sure
all software was updated. I continually get this error message and
have not been able to do anything in Outlook Express:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.gmail.com',
Server: 'smtp.gmail.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): Yes,... more »

SYNC ISSUE with WM6.1 IMAP and Deleted Items
|
| |
I have a Samsung i760.
For the last year:
WM6 with IMAP Gmail
When I deleted an email on the phone it was moved to the "Deleted
Items" label and synced as such. The email had the "Inbox" label
removed and was only seen in the "Deleted Items" label in Gmail, and
reflected the same on the mobile phone.... more »

Downloading e-mails on two computers using gmail
|
| |
After reading a hundred posts and being unable to find out how to
download e-mails on two computers I finally figured it out. The
process is actually so simple that I was surprised I did not know
before.
If you have been trying to do this for a while you probably have
probably heard the "recent" and IMAP ways to solve this problem.... more »

Differentiate between multiple addresses/accounts
|
| |
I have 2 gmail addresses. One for personal use and the other for
online purhchases/web groups. The latter is forwarded to the first so
I do not need to check each account continually. However, I'd like to
be able to look at the inbox and differentiate which account an email
has been sent to. Like have acct A in red and acct B in blue, or... more »

Apple mail client & Gmail
|
| |
Hi,
My e-mail client (Apple Mail 2.1.1) shows double the number of unread
messages in "All Mail" folder ie if there are X no. of unread messages

rectified?
I am using all the IMAP settings suggested by Gmail for Apple mail 2.
Thank you... more »

iPhone/gMail/MAP - not receiving message to self in inbox
|
| |
I am using gmail with imap on my iPhone. I have another account and e-
mail address which is forwarded directly to my gmail account. When
responding I always use my old e-mail address and ideally would like
to keep my gmail address private. When I use the gmail smtp server, I
can send a message to myself or cc myself, and it goes in my inbox as... more »

Fetching sent mail from smtp
|
| |
The answer to this question may be that it cannot be done, but I feel
the need to ask. What I am seeking is a way to have Gmail fetch email
that has been sent from an smtp connection (in this case my iPhone).
I have tried using the recent: prefix but that will only fetch mail
that has been sent through the email interface.... more »
