No it hasn't. It's not being used to investigate a particular part of
the world, but that's not going awry, that's not having gotten around to
it yet.
And given that magic is influenced by thoughts, it's not really clear
that the technology to adequately use science to investigate it exists
just yet.

The basic principles are simple enough, but they are limited enough
in acutal use that there are any number of other ways of doing the
same thing. True understanding is not intuitive, and can get as
complicated as need be to do the job.
