Re: pressure cookers and crockpots, have them but don't use them. I have a limited number of items I'd make in a crockpot and it's a PITA replacing the rubber ring in the pressure cooker. One of these days, I'll look for a pressure cooker that doesn't require a gasket. Neither gadget is at the top of my list of "need to use".

Ginny, conmmon sense use with pressure cookers is all it takes. My mom had three, a 4-quart, an 8-quart, and a canner. She used them all and fairly often. In the many decades she used them, there was never a single mishap. With pressure cookers, it's all about due diligence.
My aunt, OTOH, paid little attention to how she used her pressure cookers. On two different occasions she let the pressure build up too high in her canner and the lid blew off and into the ceiling. (The safety valves don't always work, although hers was old.) Luckily no one was in the room, but since she was canning tomatoes, her entire kitchen looked like one. :-)

Never owned one, don't want one. However, I have used them. I used to live with my aunt and she had one and I used it from time to time. I hate them. I don't really see the point of them and they make me somewhat nervous and I'm not really a nervous or timid person. There's just something about pressure cookers.
While I'm being a Luddite, I also don't like dishwashers and garbage disposals.

I hava a slow-cooker, not a crockpot. I never wanted a crockpot, but I thought slow-cookers were were okay. However, I had mine for 20 years before I actually started using it a few years ago. I had to "force" myself to get into the habit but now I use it a lot. I really love it.
