reliable and tested many times in recent years".

How often do presidential nominees decide to spend the
4th of July out of the country? Interesting timing, don't

Well, they quoted a "reliable source", so that oughta be good enough
for any of us.

I wonder if the FARC leader they captured along with the hostages and
is now in jail knew about this?

It makes no sense. Chavez would have paid way more than $20 million to FARC
for the opportunity to look the hero. The Columbian govt might have paid off
the informant, but these were FARC's most important hostages. It is really
hard to imagine that they would give them up for a mere $20M.
