Sonos Ray / Sky Q remote control compatibility

I’m considering purchasing a RAY Soundbar. I have a Sky Q remote which i currently use to control the TV volume. The remote doesn’t work on IR, I believe it works on Bluetooth (like a firestick).

Is it possible for this Sky remote to control the volume of the RAY?

Have you checked with Sky Customer Service?

I’m not a SKY user. Many devices have an option to control an A/V system via IR. If this is the case for SKY, simply specify an arbitrary A/V model that is not nearby and train RAY to use these codes.

Thanks for the replies.

The remote DOES NOT have IR. How can it talk to the RAY to adjust the volume?

As I said, I’m not a SKY user. Many other remotes use Bluetooth communication with their device, but also provide the capability for using IR to control 3rd party A/V equipment.

I’d be calling Sky, and checking with them. If this remote does not have IR capability, then it wouldn’t control all sorts of devices, blu-rays, DVD players, TiVos, DVRs, pretty much any piece of A/V equipment that was built more than a few years ago when people began integrating CEC. Not to mention the ones who still haven’t integrated it.

Hi @Clelland82, welcome to the Sonos Community!

As other users have stated, some remotes have Infrared (IR) capability but it may not be enabled by default.

If the remote doesn’t have this option, and only works via Bluetooth or Radio Frequency (RF), then there isn’t any way to get it working with the Ray as per our remote requirements, and our solution would be to use another remote.

In this case, it would be best to reach out to Sky to get confirmation and to see if there are any remote/TV settings you could change to make it output IR.

I hope this information helps!

Thank you. I thought with sky being so popular, this answer would be widely known.

Hi,

I’ve paired my Sonos Ray with my Sky Q remote using the Sonos app and it controls the volume on the Ray with no problems.

You have to make sure you go into your tv settings and turn the tv’s internal speakers off.
