There's a difference between free speech and hate speech.

Yes, there is. And if you are doing it to stand up to terrorism, then it is the former. Although hate speech should also be free, I would like to point out.

Although in the example given that wouldn't be hate speech anyway. That would just be being insulting.

and some of you are right for the wrong reasons

As long as you are not physically harming someone or infringing upon their rights, yes it is right--you should be able to do that.

It would be nice if, you know, you had some reason. And there honestly is a bit more reason to doing all of this than to give us forum-goers a little something to giggle about and the liberal forum-goers to talk about how the paper needs to be conserved and not wasted on it (or something evil like that), at least if you think it through and be rational about it.

Of course, then again, this has probably already been made-up-holiday-jacked by some right-wing extremists, Islamic loathing Jews, and etcetera.

But, back to the initial point, I would hope you would be able to say that--they are words, you may speak them.

I dunno, sounds kinda typical. I mean not 'sucks donkey balls' but the sentiment itself is far from unusual. I'm not sure what you mean by 'you could turn violent' you could, but that'd be illegal, and only makes those criticizing your religion look all the more correct.

That reminds me Jesus is mentioned and seen as a prophet in the Qur'an. So why are we ("The West") allowed to mock him so openly, but not another more prolific prophet?

Futhermore, naming your child Muhammad seems a bit ballsy. Then to go as far to rename a danish as a 'Muhammad rose' seems even worse than simply depicting the Prophet.

Islamic Hazarastan wrote:If a magazine printed pictures making fun of blacks or hispanics, it would be immediately condemned as racism and bigotry.

When people make fun of us, it is justified as freedom of speech.

There's a difference between making fun of people who are born that way and making fun of people who believe certain things by choice.

It is generally not ok to make fun of the former but generally ok to make fun of the latter.

Islamic Hazarastan wrote:For example, Muhammad (P.B.U.H) was mentioned in Hindu and Zoroastrian teachings.

Can't speak for Parsis, but 'Muhammed' is certainly not mentioned in any Hindu scripture dated before the advent of Islam in India.

A lot of people don't get the point, huh? It's really simple. The point of -everybody- drawing muhammed is because there are a group of muslims out there, not all of them, who think they can intimidate people into not. See: Comedy Central, Theo Van Gogh, who is -dead- because of this, and the Danish cartoonist who survived an axe attack. If everybody draws muhammed, the threat's hollow. That group can't kill everyone. That's why it's important.

I concur, but would emphise this is more of a right to freedom of speech.

By the way, I remember old books and encyclopedias of the 50's and 60's eras with depictions of Muhammad. I wonder what ever happend to those artist..

My professor underpaid intern was telling me that at 8:00 in the morning while he was drawing Muhammad on the whiteboard to look like something out of one of Nicolas Cages's bad movies.

I do not see how so many people cannot get the point.
