Karan Johar slammed for disrespect towards South Indian actress Nayanthara

On Koffee with Karan's latest episode, host Karan Johar talked to two superstars Akshay Kumar and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. The pair talked about their personal and professional lives in the hour long episode.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu talked about her career, growth in the industry and even her divorce with actor Naga Chaitanya. But one specific response from Karan Johar had another South Indian actor Nayanthara's fans inflamed, with many accusing him of throwing shade at her.

On the show, when Karan Johar asked Samantha about who she thought was the biggest female actor in the Sout Indian film industry, she referred to her recent release Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal, where she shares the screen with Nayanthara. She implied that she believes that Nayanthara is the biggest South Indian actor.

At this point, Karan Johar responded saying that he thinks otherwise. He went on to refer to a recent Ormax Media list of the top female actors in the country which has listed Samantha as the number one female actor in India.

The interaction received a negative response from fans, many of whom claimed that Karan Johar was 'needlessly throwing hate' at Nayanthara. Fans stated that his quick response to Samantha's compliment was rude and belittling to both actors.



Many fans even stated that Karan Johar's next production 'Good Luck Jerry' is a remake of the the Nayanthara starrer Kolamaavu Kokila.



Nayanthara, born as Diana Mariam Kurian is one of the leading female actors in the Tamil and Telugu film industry. Over the years, she has delivered countless hits like Billa, Simha, Arrambam, Iru Murugan, Bigil and Annaathee. She has also delivered many female lead hits, out of which Maya is one of the most notable one. She has also been featured in many lists of based on actors around India. The actress is currently shooting for Shah Rukh Khan co-starrer Jawaan which will hit the theatres in June 2023.
