Rani Mukerji's maternal grandmother passes away in Kolkata

Veteran actor Debashree Roy’s mother Arati Roy passed away on Tuesday evening at the age of 92. Interestingly, Arati Roy is also Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji’s grandmother as Rani’s mother Krishna Mukherjee is Debashree’s sister. She was suffering from age-related ailments over the last one year or so. For the past few months, Arati Roy was staying with her elder daughter and breathed her last in presence of her three daughters, an emotional Debashree has revealed in a statement.
Debashree’s mother has been a huge inspiration throughout her career and when the actor made her acting debut in a lead role in Arabinda Mukhopadhyay's 1978 film ‘Nodi Theke Sagore’ it was a dream come true moment for the entire Roy family.Debashree has often recalled how her mother used to take her to film shoot during the early days and even used to her with the dance costumes.
Speaking to a news daily, the grieving actress shared that she couldn’t understand when her mother passed away even if she was right in front of her. She also admitted that she became an actress because of her mother. The Roy family has stated that Arati Debi had no specific disease except the age related illness. However, Debashree has said that her mother went peacefully in front of her three daughters.
For the unversed, Debashree Roy’s mother was severely injured in August 2022 after she fell down and had a serious injury on forehead. She had lost a lot of blood and was unconscious when she was rushed a nearby hospital.
