The Northern regions of Pakistan are situated amidst the lofty mountain peaks of the Himalayas in Kaghan Valley. Within this region lies a mysterious lake, known as Saiful Muluk, the lake is greenish-blue crystal clear water that remains freezing cold. According to local folklore, a fairy and her prince are believed to reside in this lake. The legend goes that the lake is named after an Egyptian prince, Saiful Muluk, who inherited a vast treasure from his father. Among the treasures were two seals, one of which bore the image of the fairy queen, Princess Badri-ul-Jamala. The prince fell in love with the fairy and set out to find her.

In the course of looking for her, he met a saint who gave him a Suleimani cap, which was believed to help him locate the fairy. It took him six years to reach the lake, but as she was a fairy, she was not visible to him. He sat down and began performing a ritual known as Chilla, a 40-day ritual to make contact with beings born out of fire. His health deteriorated every day, but he continued with the ritual in the hope of encountering her one day. He continued his ritual without food until the 14th night of the month when he saw Badri-ul-Jamala coming along with maidens towards the lake for bathing.

After talking to her, the prince realized that she had been trapped by a white demon for the past 10 years. He, along with the fairy queen, tried to escape the valley without letting the demon know, but the demon, filled with anger, flooded the whole valley in an attempt to kill them on the spot. The prince and fairy hid inside a cave, and the giant believed they had died, according to lore. The Prince and fairy queen still exist today, living inside the cave.

The legend of Saiful Muluk has been passed down for generations in the Kaghan Valley. It is said that the fairy queen and her prince can be seen dancing above the lake on the 14th night of every month, and many locals believe that they bring good luck and fortune to those who witness their dance.

A local man who disbelieved the legend went to visit the lake to check whether a fairy existed or not. To his surprise, he was not able to see a fairy, but he saw hundreds of light orbs moving above the lake at night, disappearing into the cave.

In addition to the legend, Lake Saiful Muluk is also known for its stunning natural beauty. The lake is surrounded by snow-capped mountains, lush green forests, and colorful wildflowers. The crystal-clear water of the lake reflects the surrounding landscape, creating a breathtaking view.

Many people visit the lake to witness the magical sight of the dancing fairy queen and her prince. Some even believe that the lake has healing powers and that a dip in its icy waters can cure ailments and bring good luck.

Despite its remote location and harsh weather conditions, Saiful Muluk remains a popular tourist destination in Pakistan. Visitors come from all over the world to witness the beauty of the lake and to experience the enchanting legend of the fairy queen and her prince. The legend of the fairy queen and her prince adds to the mystical and magical atmosphere of the lake, making it a truly unique and unforgettable destination.

Whether you believe in the legend or not, there is no denying that this lake is a truly special place and one that is sure to leave a lasting impression on anyone who visits it.
