Rani Mukherjee knocks it out of the ballpark with ‘Agai Bai’ from Aiyyaa

Let me just say this…the Vaibhavi Merchant choreographed belly dance routine is sizzling. Rani Mukherjee never looked better and never danced better either. Of all the songs that have been released thus far from the upcoming film ‘Aiyyaa’ this is my favourite. Mukherjee seems to be saying albeit not in so many words to her contemporaries…anything you can do I can do better…and by George! She’s right.

This is by far the best belly dancing actress I’ve seen in Bollywood in recent memory and she seems to have achieved this by of course being in the good company of National award-winning choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant (National Film Award for Best Choreography – “Dholi Taaro Dhol Baaje” from 1999’s ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’) but also by getting down to the rudimentary aspects of belly dancing which involves doing more than just having a toned-tanned body and prancing around with a bunch of men salivating over you. In my opinion, Mukherjee has blown every Bollywood actress who has dared to attempt the intricate dance form recently out of the water. I’m sure even the famed Belly Dance Superstars would gladly take her on tour. Bravo!

  1. Rani Mukerji is one of the best dancers in Indian cinema. Katrina is stiff and expessionless, Kareena has two left feet, Priyanka is decent and the rest just suck. Rani is called the Queen for a reason you know…

  2. I really, really like the song but I don’t really share your enthusiasm about the picturization! Liked the bellydance video you included here though, that was really cool! 🙂

  3. Thanks Karina, I agree that Rani really brought her “A” game with this. I also feel that people should hold off on their judgment before they write off the picturisation as vulgar (as I have seen many complain) if within the context of the film, Rani’s character is daydreaming about this guy, then it would make sense why she is doing all those Kama Sutra poses and jumping him like that lol.

    1. Well I don’t think it’s vulgar but some people have a FUNNY threshhold for vulgarity. For example, on a certain (anti) social networking site someone (anonymously) was like “Raone is the most vulgar movie ever” and I replied that they would be scandalized if they watched Sasha Baren Cohen’s “Bruno” and they replied back “No I saw Bruno and Raone was way more vulgar”… that’s when I realized they were just trolling! LOL
