The Bugatti Chiron Is the World’s Fastest Car

The Italian automaker’s latest vehicle, unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, will zip from zero to 60 m.p.h in less than 2.2 seconds, hit speeds of 311 m.p.h., and sell for $2.6 million

Since the company was founded in 1909, Bugatti has continually pushed the limits of automotive innovation and design. And this year is no exception. At the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, the Italian brand unveiled the Bugatti Chiron, billed as the world’s fastest street-legal car. The vehicle can hit speeds as high as 311 m.p.h.—and Bugatti boasts it can push the speedometer needle even further, though the company won’t say how much faster the Chiron can go. Built as the successor to the Bugatti Veyron, the Chiron is loaded with an eight-liter, W16 engine. What’s more, the car’s 1,500 horsepower will push the Chiron from zero to 60 m.p.h. in less than 2.2 seconds.

The Chiron’s front end features four small, square LED headlights on each side, a beautiful design that makes for a fiercer look in comparison to previous Bugatti models.

“Bugatti has tested the limits of physics,” said the company’s president, Wolfgang Durheimer, in a statement. “The Chiron is the result of our efforts to make the best even better.” The carmaker devised a new carbon-fiber surface for the vehicle, which allowed for a sloping, more-aggressive-looking hood.

Even the audio system will be ultra-luxurious, with a one-carat diamond included in each of the four speakers, which is said to enhance sound quality.
