Just like last year, I have found that the current political climate surrounding Islam is still a mixed one - there is fear of angry mobs if one insults muslim dogma, even amongst western governments that are decidedly secular and not controlled by dogma. (at least not officially...)
the following is my justification for drawing this - and failing to read it means I get to poke fun at you when come with your rage-filled comments.
I am fully aware if muslim doctrine not to allow any imagery what so ever of the prophet. However, I am a citizen in a non-muslim country, raised on ethical values derived from western mythos and nordic tradition. I am as such NOT BOUND by muslim law or dogma, to which I am fully allowed to draw whatever muslim prophet I so may please.
Forcing me to obey foreign laws or dogma at the threat of violence is in most places considered either an act of war or terrorism... think about that for a moment.
I have drawn here the prophet muhammed about to burn a quran. big deal? its just pixels. Heck, a while ago a guy on the internet put half a million copies of the Quran on a harddrive and smashed the harddrive! Is that offensive? Consider: In the past, books were hard to make and took a long time to copy. Burning books before the advent of the printing press representing true destruction of knowlegde. Today, it means nothing. So again, as with the first drawing of the prophet I made, I make this point out how silly it is to be upset - today - over people burning books. Sure, it has a symbolic meaning, but so does assembling an angry mob and killing people.
The day that all muslims learn to accept that others will act as other do, for they are not muslim, and thus do not follow the teaching of islam, the day they just shrug and do not take offense, that is the day I will dance the futterwacken, and be joyous, for that is the day the adherents of islam have matured.
Short version: if you're a muslim, even if offended by this, and you choose to ignore this - then I will be happy. If you give me angry comments, you reinforce the idea that muslims that cannot accept non-muslims doing things that muslims aren't supposed to do.

Yeah you could've cut out the whole paragraph or five of explanation, we get Everyone Draw Muhammad Day.
Also QUR'AN, I...
Also QUR'AN, I...
Oh I know - but trust me, there will ALWAYS be a hater who needs it spelled out for him
Yeah but you sound less like you're going all "herp derp this is my art I'm so deep and edgy der" and you get more of a reaction out of it, which is why you drew it in the first place.
honestly, if I get no reaction at all (from muslims) then I would be happy
it would show that they could ignore non-muslims doing things they aren't allowed to do
on dA I got a ton of comments on my last prophet drawing stating just that: "hey, you're not allowed to draw the prophet! *rage*" - because those muslims apparently really did think that their religious dogma applied all over the world...
I, as well as the thousands of others drawing the prophet here, show them that their assumption is so very wrong

Oh so it IS "herp derp this is my art I'm so edgy herpty here's my message to the world tee derpty doo".
Well, that's disappointing, I thought you'd at least try to be cool about it.
Well, that's disappointing, I thought you'd at least try to be cool about it.
well, thats your opinion - I would argue that I'm staying cool about it, but hey, each to his own
he wouldn't burn the qu'ran - but a while ago some amurikan preacher man did.... resulting in middle eastern riots where they rushed some embassy or something and friggin DECAPITATED people
my point being, last year it was simply drawing the prophet that caused riots and death - making that the subject to draw
this time around, its the stupidity of rioting and murdering over someone burning a stack of paper.
Thunderfoot (guy on youtube) demonstrated how silly this notion is by putting 500.000 pdf versions of the quran on a harddrive, then burning the harddrive into slag. Instant half million qurans burnt... but there was no riot.
so... book burning was suddenly only bad, if the books were in the right format??? hence the idea of rioting over book burnings being silly

You realise... islam is all over the world.
>run of the mill cultureless americans.
>run of the mill cultureless americans.
yes but oddly enough we mostly hear of extremist muslims from the middle or far east...
I dont hear about that many of them in south america
and I'm not american
I dont hear about that many of them in south america

I doesn't matter where you are from. you're xenophobic and know nothing of the world.
So bosnia, britain, ireland, wales, france, turkey or the czech republic is free of islam? Is it still pre industrial europe?

Ok, first of all - for a brit living in germany you're awfully... I dunno - american yourself?
I've yet to actually have europeans critize me on this - I just assumed that they were smart enough to actually read the image description first.
>protip: read it
secondly, I've never even mentioned any of those countries. and what part of all over the world excludes the countries you name?
I simply point out that in western media I usually only hear of middle eastern or far eastern (as in asia and such) muslim radicalism and fundamentalism.
so, try again

using memes in a retort.. oh my thats the level of cringe.
You don't understand it at all, you're a very immature "young man" and need to think before you do things like this when you have no grasp of the religion etc.
I'm not muslim but many of my friends are, you chat bare shit and then when you get told otherwise you assume you're a genius level intellect and make painful rebuttals.

ok, since you keep acting like a five year old - I shall treat you as one
See that big picture up top? under that is some text, its called a description.
In it I've written my motivation for doing this picture.
now, if you read it all, and understand it, then you will see why I drew the picture.
I'll give you a hint, it involves explaining why me drawing the prophet isn't actually in violation of islamic traditions - and why muslims shouldn't be offended by it.

The description or "motive" is stupid.
You basically say "i'm not muslims this is ok, I can do what I want as it doesn't apply to me"
People who try and use 4chan ethical arguements are utter cretins, and yes it still is offensive as you've drawn a religious symbol offensively.
Do we know if god has a form if he exists, so I could draw a 12 foot jesus spewing prick and asy THATS GOD ITS NOT OFFENSIVE
You need to get off the internet and learn about life.

protip: drawing jebus isn't considered offensive...
so you're basically saying that despite me NOT being muslim, NOT living in a place governed by sharia law, that I should still adhere and submit to muslim law?
Sweet merciful brown-pasted apple-deity on a stick
do you have any idea how stupid that makes you sound?
how much do I have to bow and scrape to appease the global muslim community?
for according to you, they are obviously our masters and overlords - since their laws and costums transcend national borders.
Seriously dude, the muslim scriptures specifically say that muslims shouldn't draw the prophet since it'd encourage idolization of him. Look at how much they worship him anyway! By my logic its them (and you...) failing to understand what the scripture is saying by getting upset over this. non-muslims aren't mentioned in the muslim hadith - its a muslim-only ban on prophet pictures
also, protip: the hadith actually says that you can't depict ANY of the prophets
According to the quran, Jesus was a muslim prophet
...go tell the pope he can't 'show' jesus anymore. no seriously. if you want me to obey your whining, I wanna see you tell the pope that idols of jesus is offensive to the muslims and that they have to STOP.
can you see where your logic is going?
4chan ethics indeed.
Sweety, I use logic. Cold, malicious and delightfully enlightened logic.

Your arguement in tiny bulletpoints for your feeble mind to grasp.
1. ITS OKAY AS IM NOT MUSLIM
2. ITS ONLY OFFENSIVE IF YOU WANT IT TO BE
3. IF MUSLIMS DO IT IT BE BAD BUT IM NOT MUSLIM
4. Protestants dont have any grand imagery inside their places of worship, you'd know that right? EG no crucifixes, paintings etc.
5. You cannot be taken seriously when you say things like protip and other farsical 4chan natter.
You live in denmark, nice to see them danes still live in an archaic society.
My logic is sound, you're justifying being a cunt by saying "it doesn't have any meaning to me so it's all good"
So the massarces of muslims in the early 90's in euroland was ok because the people doing it might not be muslim or because its not wrong in their eyes?
Ethics, learn them.
House, leave it.
Life, embrace it.

>implying that muslim culture isn't a throwback to medieval times?
Sweety, I think you got something real wrong with your priorities man.
and ya, I use internet vernacular - its an occupational hazzard, I'm a grad student studying internet culture.
and yes, if non muslims do things that muslims cant do - then its ok.
For example, sharia would have the consumption of pork products made illegal - because according to it, pigs are unclean.
And yet I happily cook and eat bacon. Delicious bacon.
...but I don't hear of raging muslim mobs over my bacon heresy?
listen genious, you want me to obey what amounts to the laws of a different country - without me living in it.
it doesn't work that way.
You can feel as righteous and offended as you want - but its called freedom of speech and expression.
massacres? wut? context? Not seeing it?
Look, if someone draws a stupid picture of jesus - you dont hear about mobs of raging christians going berserk and killing people
...but I have heard of mob of raging muslims going berserk and KILLING people over a stupid drawing of yonder prophet
thats why I drew this picture - because thats the face that such behavior gives the guy.
ethics? you try to figure it out. House? I love that show! Life? I dont read that kind of magazines
and my logic is sound, you're trying to justify submitting to foreign cultural rule and domination by saying "it offends them"
well shit, life is full of stuff that people migth not like - but why be up in arms over it? accept that other people in other countries live by different norms.

Wow.. if I wasn't already sure you were someway down the autistic spectrum this cemented it.
Slainte!
Islam isn't evil, the british caused this all by refusing to give aid to the same people were trying to wipe out now.. give them money to fight the russians but refuse to fund schools.
Bene.

You know your Gaelic
I can talk funny to you in a language you'll find it hard to understand as well :3
and I never said that islam is evil... now did I
I did say stuff about the ppl who believe in it though.
>Protip: there's a difference.
Oh, and history lesson: it was the american's that helped the mujahedin pwn the russians - watch "Wilson's War"
>blaming the americans, now that's never been seen before :p
religion isn't evil. Organized religion, when faith becomes normative to the point that one will punish another for 'doing it wrong' - that's evil, IMHO.
also, really - you're starting to sound more like a broken record - whining about the same things over and over.
I mean, I've yet to see an honest argument from you that couldn't be boiled down to "You're a big meany, stop making fun of my friend's imaginary friend!"

Holy bleeding upside down christ you are full on aspie-dropping-his-inhaler-on-the-shortbus retarded. I haven't seen such a willful display of ignorance since I last turned on FOX news.
Now, speaking as a murrican, even my little red white and blue patterned brain can tell that you're just constructing a ridiculous straw man and attacking this guy's arguments directly, rather than actually refuting them. You do realize that you haven't rebutted any of his points with a direct counterargument right? You just mock them with infuriated self-righteousness and dismiss them as invalid before stating your own poorly formed opinion.
People are not beholden to foreign laws... and that's the end of it. There's no back-talk to that. There's no counter. Recreational pot is illegal in 48 out of 50 states here, but I can go to Amsterdam any time I like and blaze till I turn green, and Uncle Sam can't do shit-one about it.
Oh, and do try to actually PROVE me wrong in your inevitable rage-filled buttmad reply, rather than just calling me a doodoo head and going home with your ball

ofc - although sometimes he rants do get a bit long, but I see the logic in that: he has to cover all the bases so that the idiots can't say he skimped on anything (same reason I got that wall of text up there)
Here's the thing I don't really get.. if you believe in a religion that believes in an afterlife where all your sins will catch up with you, then why the hell do you care what they do when they're alive? I mean, assuming they aren't doing something that actually DOES harm someone else (theft, murder, etc.). If your beliefs are valid, they're gonna get what's coming to them for ETERNITY, right?
Oh wait, that won't satiate people's bloodlust. And would make sense.
Now, I'm not condoning this. But at the same time, if you whine for other people to "not do this thing", then, well, they're pretty much begging for everyone to do it to them to troll 'em. So in conclusion; kudos for standing up for FREEDOM!

damnit - i'd written a huge "yes i agree with you and here is why" - but now I'm like... bleh
you do well in pointing out this oddity.
- this is because the mere existence of non-belivers threaten a faith from a purely ideological standpoint. If the faithful see the non-believers living happy lives without all the dogmatic constraints on their lives (no pork, no alcohol, no pictures of people, and so on) then it calls into question the validity of said dogma. "he's eating bacon and is not smitten by god, why can't I?"
to this end a lot of religions call non-belivers... non-belivers. heretics, pagans - that sort. you know 'they say they're bad people' - the notion that the people in religion X is god Y's chosen few makes it so much easier to explain away non-belivers.

The offended ones may as well learn Rule 34 while on the Internet. That'll give some knowledge about what the free Internet thinks about Muhammad xD
The Streisand effect is basically "when you try to silence something - but end up calling more attention to it"
This is very much the case of pretty much all prophet drawings.
Why?
Well, the moment one forces us silly non-muslims to look into the minutia of why one shouldn't draw a prophet, you discover all kinds of fun things:
1) it says no-where in the Qu-ran that you can't draw the prophet
2) its only mentioned in a hadith that you can't draw the prophet
3) the context of not being allowed to draw the prophet is important!
4) You see, apparently the prophet muh-mad said at some point that muslims should not depict him, lest they come to idolize him... they should focus on their god instead
5) So... the rule only applies to muslims, and considering how they deify said prophet anyway, then I think they've failed at his commandment anyway
6) For added insult to injury: Depending on how you translate the 'no drawing the prophet' thing, it might apply to all muslim prophets
7) In the Qu-ran Jesus (yes, that one) is mentioned as a muslim prophet - now try to see if you can get whatever muslim apologist or muslim hater you're talking to, to get all of christianity to stop depicting the J-man... You'd be amazed at how quickly they shut up then
I find going through the above list incredibly fun - as the furious butthurt that idiot muslims display when you call them out on their bullshit is just hilarious

I'm guessing religion dictates the followers' sense of humor and taboo, giving self-imposed restrictions in life. You have an interesting point there. The more you try to cover up something the more curious it becomes. We need brave folks like you in the name of free speech. *salute*
well that too - but not all religions dictate humor - but many dictate taboo in the sense that they dictate what you can and cannot do
However, you mustn't forget that there's another factor:
By doing what they aren't allowed to - and being happy in doing so - I go against what they have been taught is the only way to live a happy life. This brings into question their own way of life and the restrictions they have placed on themselves.
This is how some might argue I 'corrupt' their morals - because I make them question "Well if he can do this, why exactly is it that I can't???"
Consider the islamic and jewish taboo on eating pork. This is a local (but ancient) middle eastern costum that I can easily tell was adopted more out of practicality thousands of years ago: they didn't have the means to properly clean pigs, so they'd always be contaminated if you tried to eat them. The rule makes no sense today because now we know better and have refrigiration, but their religious laws were written to include it and exalt adherence to it to be a holy act, and to violate it banishes one from a good afterlife.
Right, because bacon damns you to hell - makes perfect sense

Well that is true. But wouldn't that sound like religious people have a "obvious weakness" and irreligious/atheists don't?
I thought they don't eat it because of economic reasons (breeding difficulty, desert conditions etc) o.o thanks for the additional knowledge. For me personally, it's kinda annoying to be considerate for a majority when it comes to pork consumption, because if there's 1 friend who is religious, everyone's supposed to comply and not dine pork for the day.

I would personally be very offended if out of half a dozen guests demand I change the entirety of a dinner to fit his personal beliefs
I mean - think about it: If you want the freedom to practice religion as you yourself see fit, without others forcing you to do things differently... then why should you be allowed to force me to do things differently?
IMO its a cleverly disguised way of suborning local culture to your religious dogma - calling it political correctness and acceptance or openness.
As for calling it a weakness? I dunno
I mean, IMO its on par with going "If I kneel down every sunday and ask nicely to my imaginary friend, I'll have fun WHEN I DIE"
...and its not like not eating pork confers some kind of spiritual bonus to them - no - its purely "if you eat pork - YOU GET PUNISHED"
Religious dogma and 'law' was invented as a way to get people to act civilized.
Here's a mind twister: The ten commandments? That's an uplifting protocol, to allow a tribal nomad culture to become a feudal kingdom type civilization.
Think about it. It introduces private property law (thou shalt not steal) - enforces marriage (don't covet other dudes' ladies) - and most importantly: it streamlines economy and production by giving everyone a single day off per week that everyone has to attend.
see, back in ye olde times, there were a shitload of gods and cults and holidays. Heck, even the catholic church had trouble with this since they ended up with so many saints during the middle ages that almost every other day was a holiday for some saint... which had a negative impact of peasant productivity. Here in denmark this was actually 'solved' by consolidating all those holidays into a big public holiday we still have as an ancient leftover today call "The big praying day" (no really...)
the ten commandments sort also tried to solve this issues via a combination of having to hold the sabbath holy, and not worshiping anything else (so no other holidays). See, when everyone is working at the same time you can get a lot more work done
I mean - think about it: If you want the freedom to practice religion as you yourself see fit, without others forcing you to do things differently... then why should you be allowed to force me to do things differently?

So religion influences civilization by creating basic morals, ethics and customs. Granted if it could really create civilized people, but it's getting too old. Well it's getting over the line for me. Now it covers everything and anything, and I am getting tired of it. I will hate the day I see a religious crescent on the front page of FA. That right there, is just sick.
Not that I'm an atheist or anything by saying any of this. it's just that all these talk about being open and accepting is a subtle scheme to challenge freedom and choice. My biggest concern is probably the Western world, and how they are treating religious immigrants' demands. Okay, so Christianity is bad in many ways, but least it's nerfed-up by now and anyone of everyone could make fun of it. Islam....is a totally different crap.

Ya pretty much
Plus, nearly all religions have built in commandments or guidelines to make adherents spread the faith. Once big enough such a trend starts to self perpetuate:
People basically end up reasoning: "If I make these 'sacrifices' to my lifestyle, say, not ever drinking, or not ever touching pork products, or 'non-kosher' food, then I'm showing to my god how good I am, since I can follow instructions"
However, this usually also leads to: "With me doing all these things and being holier than though, then me seeing others live by different religious rules (or no religious rules at all) offends me somehow!? I must Show them that my way is right"
What they're missing is the subtle cognitive dissonance that they're basically trying to reconcile the fact that people can live happily without their religion. This would indicate that their own choice in faith and way of life... might just be wrong
And that horrifies religious folks: To think that their faith might be wrong? Well if theirs is wrong then what religion is right? Is any right? And then you have the existential crisis and whatnot. Mind you, these things are rarely thought of consciously - but if you ever want to fuck with a religious person's head, then point this out to them: How can they be sure they're right, when so many others believe just as much that they're right, but do things differently?

It's either the all-so evil genius "which comes first - the egg or chicken" question, or there's always superstitious videos showing miracles etc etc. Religion creates order, and commands the people to do biddings, so if a country ever run out of them, well "chaos" ensue. It's so.....yeah know what? Life's not the bitch - religion is.
Well if they aren't pissed at this year's drawings there's always next year.
I aim to keep on doing this every year...
I find it fun to argue the fundies and apologists into the ground

cool. Do you have or are signed in any organization that supports your beliefs? D:
We digress.
Thanks for the support and love for the prophet (ahem). Looking forward for next year's hilarity. If you haven't, try listening to Pat Condell or Hitch's criticisms :)
