Remember when Rani Mukerji left us smitten for the first time on silver screen, strutting her way into St. Xavier’s College in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (plus into our hearts) with her effortless charms and oh-that-jaw-dropping twirl and hair flip? Well, the 90’s kids can easily vouch that Rani is aging like wine since then and as the diva celebrates her 42nd birthday on Saturday, we can’t help but gush over all the romantic numbers of hers that continue to redefine love over the years with a breath of fresh air.

Though Rani Mukerji’s first Hindi cinema was the 1997 released movie ‘Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat’, it was Karan Johar-directorial ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ that gave her a breakthrough in the Hindi film industry. Her style in the film was loved by many. In fact it became a trend during those days among college girls since both her Indian and western avatars in the film won over fans and critics alike.Ever since then, there has been no stopping Rani as she experimented with her roles and looks from time to time, be it that of a con-woman in ‘Bunty Aur Babli‘ or the moustache look in ‘Dil Bole Hadippa!’.

2. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

There is no Bollywood buff and hopeless romantic alive who doesn’t go back to the title track of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The lovely slow ballad sung by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik expressed how love can overwhelm an individual when they least expect it and featured Rani, Kajol and SRK.

3. Jaane Dil Mein

This track is from Mujhse Dosti Karoge! (2002) in which Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor Khan also played the lead roles. The love triangle story did work well for the actress and the song sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Sonu Nigam was a mushy hit among fans.
