What exactly happened on the night Sridevi died?

Last week, Sridevi was in the news for her stunning ensembles at her nephew Mohit Marwah's wedding. So it came as quite a shock, when in the wee hours of Sunday, news broke that the legendary actress was no more. Sridevi's sudden and untimely death has left the nation devastated, and fans want to know what exactly happened that fateful night.

The Kapoor clan let their hair down at the Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates, where Mohit Marwah tied the knot with Antara Motiwala on February 20. Sridevi attended the wedding with her husband Boney Kapoor and younger daughter, Khushi. Her elder daughter, Janhvi Kapoor, could not make it as she was busy with her debut film, Dhadak. After the festivities, Boney and Khushi returned to India, while Sridevi chose to stay behind.

According to a report in Khaleej Times, Boney went back to Dubai. In fact, Sridevi was getting ready for a dinner date with him when the tragedy occurred. A source close to the Kapoor family is quoted as telling the publication that Boney flew down to Dubai from Mumbai and went to Sridevi's room at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel at around 5.30pm to surprise her. They had a brief conversation before he asked her to have dinner with him.

Sridevi went to the washroom to freshen up. When fifteen minutes passed, Boney knocked on the door but received no response. He then forced open the door and was shocked to find his beloved wife lying motionless in the bathtub filled with water. "He tried to revive her and when he could not, he called a friend of his. After that, he informed the police at 9pm," the insider said.

Paramedics tried to resuscitate her, but she was already dead. Her body was then taken for autopsy to the General Department of Forensic Medicine.

Sources from the General Department of Forensic Medicine told India Today, "Late on Sunday night, some blood samples of actress Sridevi were sent for tests." The reports are expected to come by 10am Dubai time (11.30am IST), and are crucial to clear the body for transportation.

After this, a death certificate will be issued and the body will be taken for embalming. It appears that the family will be able to collect her mortal remains only by late afternoon, after which they will bring it back in a private jet to Mumbai.
