Since last weekend the actress Florence Pugh, who has starred in Little Women and Black Widow, has racked up 2.2 million likes on Instagram and sparked a fierce public debate — and all for wearing a pink dress.

The source of contention? A flowing tulle Valentino couture gown that put Pugh’s nipples firmly in the spotlight. One semi-transparent dress has cemented her status as poster girl for a generation of young women who shout down their critics when their older sisters would have been shamed into silence.
