<strong>UTV</strong> <strong>announces</strong> <strong>its</strong> <strong>next</strong> <strong>Tamil</strong> <strong>film</strong> ‘SIGARAM THODU’<br />

Chennai, 2 nd January 2013: <strong>UTV</strong> Motion Pictures today announced <strong>its</strong> <strong>next</strong> home production in <strong>Tamil</strong> ‘Sigaram<br />

Thodu’ which will be written and directed by Gaurav of ‘Thoonga Nagaram’ fame and will star Vikram Prabhu in<br />

the lead. After ‘Settai’ (remake of Hindi super hit <strong>film</strong> Delhi Belly) starring Arya, Santhanam, Premgi, Hansika,<br />

Anjali and Nasser and directed by R. Kannan this will be <strong>UTV</strong>’s <strong>next</strong> <strong>Tamil</strong> release this year.<br />

The pre-production work for ‘Sigaram Thodu’ has commenced from today and the <strong>film</strong>’s shooting is expected<br />

to begin from April 2013. The other cast and crew is under finalization and will be announced shortly.<br />

“As a Studio it has been our constant endeavour to bring across the right mix of content for our consumers like<br />

we have done with our Hindi slate. South is a key market for us and we will be announcing an equally eclectic<br />

slate this side as well,” said G. Dhananjayan, Chief – South Business, Studios, Disney<strong>UTV</strong><br />

In 2013, ‘Settai’ will be <strong>UTV</strong>’s first release in <strong>Tamil</strong> which will release in February and ‘Sigaram Thodu’ will hit<br />

theatres in December.<br />

is <strong>UTV</strong>’s 4 th <strong>film</strong> in the last 7 years to have been selected to represent India at the Academy awards; earlier <strong>film</strong>s<br />

were Rang De Basanti (2006), Harishchandrachi Factory (2009) and Peepli Live (2010). In 2011, <strong>UTV</strong> also became<br />

one of the few studios to successfully venture into South Indian cinema with Deiva Thirumagal and Muran, and<br />

has had a successful 2012 so far with Vettai, Masala Café, Mugamoodi and Thaandavam in <strong>Tamil</strong>, and<br />

Grandmaster and Husbands in Goa in Malayalam. <strong>UTV</strong> has a library of over 70 <strong>film</strong>s including Hindi, Regional,<br />

The Walt Disney Studios has seen unprecedented box office success in India recently with MARVEL’s The<br />

Avengers which was distributed and marketed in India by <strong>UTV</strong> Motion Pictures. The <strong>film</strong> emerged the 4th


highest grosser of all-time amongst Hollywood <strong>film</strong>s in India. Prior to this, Cars 2 and Pirates of the Caribbean 4<br />

released in 2011 and were the biggest animation and live action titles of all time for Disney in the country. In<br />

2010, Prince of Persia became the highest grossing western <strong>film</strong> in India that year. Earlier, Disney released <strong>its</strong><br />

first live action Hindi feature Do Dooni Chaar in 2010 and subsequently after the success of the <strong>film</strong>, released<br />

Anaganaga-O-Dheerudu, a Telugu feature targeted at the southern audiences and second Hindi live-action <strong>film</strong><br />

Zokkomon.<br />

Coming up from the combined Studio is an inimitable slate with <strong>film</strong>s like Race 2, AnyBody Can Dance (ABCD),<br />

Kai Po Che!, Himmatwala, Ghanchakkar, Satyagraha and Chennai Express in Hindi, Settai in <strong>Tamil</strong> and Telugu, Oz-<br />
