Summary[edit]
DescriptionMedullary Carcinoma of the Breast, Mastectomy.jpg |
Medullary Carcinoma of the Breast, Mastectomy This is a vertical section through a breast removed for a locally advanced 7-cm tumor that that had ulcerated through the skin surface (top of image). In the fresh state, the tumor was soft, well-demarcated, and dark grey. The slice of tissue was cleared overnight in Carnoy fluid and immersed in alcohol for photography. The Carnoy treatment makes the tumor whiter and the surrounding adipose tissue darker and more translucent, enhancing the contrast between tumor and native breast. |
